write a blog post addressing this issue. Do you think that Kurzweil is right? What about Joy? Both? Neither? Are you hopeful about the world you'll live in for the next 30 years, or pessimistic? You might find it helpful to think about past technological revolutions (such as the steam engine, the television, and the automobile) that were supposed to either save or destroy humanity. Is this the same? Different?
the way that technonlogy is looking right now, i cant help but be hopeful. i mean, its scary in a way , because we dont know what can come from the advances, but what ever comes from it we will reap bennifits and suffer consequences, just like with all of the other advances that have beeen made thus far. every year things just get bigger and better, some people dont like the change, but others, lik emyself, love it, because they make our everyday actions perform smoother and with less hassle. the advances also mean better health care, but it also can mean people becoming dependent on certain costly treatments, because we all know when you treat one illness, there are side effects. in the next 30 years, everything we dreamed of is probly going to be availiable, flying cars, robots that clean the house for you, more efficent surgery, war without people dying.. everything from the movies. it sounds scary, but thats why its called change.

turing test
Suppose that we wanted to build a computer that can pass the Turing test. It would need a wide range of skills, such as the ability to understand written language. Write a blog post that describes some of the other skills a computer would require in order to pass the Turing test.
i found Some of the other skills that computers need to pass the turning test and they are are, problem solving (like math equasions), perception (understanding) and reasoning (deductive and inductive).

e-voting
If you were placed in charge of monitoring elections in California, what would you recommend to ensure the process was as fair as possible? You might choose to focus on lower-level security issues, or more high-level policy and organization issues - either is fine.
What specific concerns do people have about the Diebold voting machines? Why are they not considered secure?
the diebold voting machines are easy to hack into, their not secure because they havent been totaly tested. just like anything that has a computer in it, it can malfunction. there are hackers that can create viruses that injects "malicious software" that can steal votes and after the voting is over the software deletes itself. the locks of the machine can be picked in less than 10 seconds and the memory card that is in the machine can come out, the virus card can be injected and the machine can be restarted in less than 1 minute. If you were placed in charge of monitoring elections in California, what would you recommend to ensure the process was as fair as possible? to telll you the truth, i dont know what i would do to ensure the voting process. i feel that there is no way to make it 100% fair because of all of the scheming that is going on today. maybe if there were supervisors in every voting station making sure the equipment wasnt tamperd with, but thats not realistic, but if it was, te supervisors would need supervisors because who knows what they would do to the machines

FiLE SHARiNG
explain your personal ethics regarding file-sharing, and identify what it is about these cases that (for you) makes some acceptable and some not.
- Downloading a song you don't own from a major label artist.
I feel that there are enough people out there who still feel the need to buy cds and singles, so it wouldnt hurt for me to download it. most of the songs that i have download are from cds that i have bought before, but since they scratch, there basicaly useless.
- Downloading a song you don't own from a struggling independent artist.
Independent artists should want people to download their music, its exposure, once you get labled as main-stream, and people like you, they will buy your cd because they want to support you. just look at Soulja Boy, where would he be if it wasnt fot lime wire and you tube?
- Downloading another copy of a song you already own.
Theres nothing wrong with this at all, if you have already bought a song or cd, it doesnt make since to go spend 13 more dollars just to listen to a couple songs that you like.
- Shoplifting a CD from a store
This is just wrong, because its just like stealing anything else from the store. music is put on the internet to download, cds arnt put in stores to be stolen.
.- Downloading a song to "try it out" if you like it enough, you'll buy the CD.
I feel that this is reasonable, because if you buy a cd that you dont like, youll feel robbed of your hard earned money that you could have put into your gas tank.
- Copying a CD from a friend.
I feel that this is ok, because most of the time you are going to steal the cd from your friend anyways.
- Making music you own available online to share with a couple of friends.
Theres no big problem with this, its just like the cd thing.
- Making music you own publicly available on the Internet, such as through KazAa or Limewire.
There is a larger range of people, so this makes it had to justify, but its not a crime untill you get cought.. we break laws all the time whats wrong with sharing music that people love.

ANALOG to DiGiTAL
The analog to digital change has affected my life in a positive way. No more cassette tapes, or crappy looking and sounding (not to mention BULKY) VHS movies, no more tripping over the long phone cord that stretches all over the house. Now we have Cd's, ipods, DVDs, cordless phones, cell phones and devices with more memory that we can handle. With the introduction of analog into media, directors have been able to make movies that they never thought they would be able to bring to life and Musicians can record at home just as easy and effectively as if they where in a studio. I like the idea of digital media, because instead of my finger going numb from holding down the rewind button on my walk man just to skip a song, i can now skip it with the press of one button on my ipod. Or instead of rewinding every movie that i rent from blockbusters, i can just put it in the box and bring it back. the analog-digital change is good and needed. Even though when DVD players came out they where 150-200$, if you need one, now they are basically giving them away... and if u don't want to buy all of your favorite cassette tapes or VHS, or even vinyl records all over again, don't worry... there are converters that you can buy to change everything. Some people would rather choose the richness of the voices on vinyl or the "reliability" of an Anolog phone what ever it is, vs the convience of all Digital devices, but "To each his own."

E-Waste
The issue of E-waste is hard to address, becasue its something that we are all guilty of. everytime you upgrade your tv, phones or Mac computers more and more waste is created. then its sent to some "developing" world country to be "recycled" but the way they do it is just as terrible as their living conditons. i remember on the video that one man was chopping a battery up with a butcher Knife.
For me, the best way to recycle my old electronics is to sell them. i get a new cell phone about every 6 months, so its easy to sell my old one because its still fairly new. With Tvs and computers, you can always turn to Ebay or Craigs List instead of the corner that your house is on. one persons trash is another persons treasure.

NET-NUTRALITY
- The fundamental issue underlying the debate on net nutrality is not putting compaines in positions to manopolize the operation of the internet.
- Google and Ebay are in favor of net nutrality. They feel that every website should be treated the same and it wouldnt be fair for websites ran by compaines with more money to be deliverd faster than up-and-coming websites.
- At&t Verizon are opposed to neutrality. They feel that who ever has the most money should be able to run the internet. At&t really feels this way because they dont mind manopolies, as they're trying to buy every phone company around. Comcast has recently been accused of blocking P2P file sharing during peek hours, thus violating the laws of net nutrality
- I feel that the internet is just fine how it is. its not bothering anyone, and if net nutrality is ruled against, who knows how the net will be. it goes back to the old saying, "if it aint broke, dont try to fix it".

CYBER-SQUATTING
My opionon on cybersquatting is that it is annoying, but a smart way to get money. the internet is a place where everyone can do almost anything, so if i want to make use someone elses name as my domain-name, then i think its ok. there are other reasons to do it other than to make money, sometimes it happens just as a co-incidence like with the Nissan guy being sued by the Nissan car company over Nissan.net. Nissan is the guys last name, and part of the name of his company. i dont think there should even be a lawsuit over this. through reading his statments, i think that if cybersquatting became more of a legal matter then you should have a reason for using the name you are using, rather than because you can. it still feels like it could be a violation of copyrght or trademark laws.

week 2- THE iNTERNET
More and more people are discovering the internet everyday. Theres no limit to the things you can do on it, shop, chat, or even meet ur future ex-wife or husband. it also is a place where we can keep up with friends we dont see often, communicate to professors and get information for assignments. there is a dark side to the internet too; identity theft and sexual predators in chatrooms just to name a few.
Since highschool, ive been using the internet for mostly the same things, resarch papers, myspace and shopping. maybe one of the best/ worse things that i found on the internet was ebay. WOW, i used to be a shoe addict and since i wear such a large size, its hard for me to find shoes in stores. i'd end up spending all of my money on shoes that i didnt need, but im better at that now, but maybe thats because i have all of the shoes that i wanted. but theres no doubt that the internet is a great place to find info about things you dont know about. i find myself typing things into google wen im not sure about it and within a few clicks, im familiar with what ever i wanted to know.
